We’re officially a Toitū carbonreduce certified organisation
December 11, 2023
We’re so proud to announce that we’re a Toitū carbonreduce certified organisation. We officially achieved this certification in November 2023, joining a like-minded community of over 400 organisations that are taking science-based action for a better environment.
What is a Toitū carbonreduce certified organisation?
An organisation that is measuring and reducing its carbon footprint in line with international best practice.
What does that mean for Jeuneora?
We now know the true carbon footprint of our organisation which is helping us take science-backed action for a better environment:
- In our first year of certification we’re reducing our international courier carbon emissions by 30% through the DHL Go Green Plus initiative which uses sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
- We’re also working with Future Post to reduce waste by 47% at our skincare manufacturing facility and our warehouse by recycling all of our soft plastic waste into fence posts.
- Our emissions will then be measured and audited annually which will help us continually set new targets for reduction, with the ultimate goal of achieving net zero emissions.
What difference does the Toitū certification make?
Toitū gives organisations a framework to make true improvement by actually reducing carbon emissions - instead of just offsetting. To date, programme members have reduced over 8.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
So… what exactly is carbon?
Carbon is inherent in carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas that helps Earth hold the heat it receives from the Sun so it doesn't all escape back into space. But - if we release too much CO2 into the atmosphere (through human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes), it causes Earth’s temperature to heat up too much, leading to problems like climate change.
This is why we've chosen to work with a robust certification programme that will help us to actually reduce our carbon emissions. Alongside our other sustainability initiatives, we believe this sort of action will achieve much more positive impact rather than just offsetting our emissions.
